Ethoxylated rapeseed oil fatty acid methyl esters as new raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry. Equilibrium solubilization of cholesterol

Ethoxylated rapeseed oil fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEE) with an ethoxylation degree of 10-60 were used for cholesterol solubilization. The FAMEE structure was characterized by the level of hydrophilic-lipophilic equil. (HLB) and thermodynamic parameters, which allowed the calcn. of the soly. parameter. FAMEE aq. solns. and their cholesterol solns. after equil. solubilization were described by viscosity and hydrodynamic parameters and their surface activity was tested. Solubilization index and partition coefficient for solubilized cholesterol were detd. The effectiveness of the cholesterol solubilization process in the environment of aq. FAMEE solns. was studied by solving Rosen's postulate and calculating the transfer energy of the lipophilic and hydrophilic parts of the surfactant and adduct structure to the phase boundary. The properties of the studied FAMEE enable their use as non-xenobiotic prophylactic agents which can support the physiological process of crystalline cholesterol solubilization, preventing cholelithiasis of the gallbladder.
