摘要
IntroductionThe aim of this study was to evaluate the social and aesthetic impacts of different levels of dentoalveolar biprotrusion (DB) in frontal view.MethodsDifferent levels of DB with acetate plates and laminated wax 7 were simulated on a 26-year-old woman. Six frontal photographs were taken and used in a questionnaire, which contained questions about aesthetic perception and social aspects. After creating the questionnaire, sample size calculation was performed and 48 lay participants of different age groups, education, civil status, ethnicities and education participated in the survey. The Mann-Whitney, Friedman and Wilcoxon tests were used for data analysis (alpha = 0.05).ResultsDB of 4 mm and worse negatively impacted social and aesthetic perception. Social and aesthetic perception did not differ between sexes, ethnicities and educational levels of the evaluators. Sex, ethnicity and educational level did not influence the perception of DB (p < 0.05).ConclusionIt can be deduced that from 4- to 8-mm DB, there was a progressive increase in the negative impact on individuals' perception. Also, sex, ethnicity, educational level and civil status did not influence perception of DB.
