Novel green synthesis of Ag2S from Diospyros kaki and its application for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

•The preparation of Ag2S by green synthesis using diospyros kaki fruit is a novel process.•The morphology and structure of Ag2S NPs were characterized by SEM, XRD, FTIR, and XPS.•The PC H2 production activity of Ag2S was evaluated by using three different electron donors.•The average H2 evolution rate of Ag2S NPs determined 2753.3 μmol g−1 h−1.
