An efficient extraction method for ergosterol from Lentinus edodes stem by ultrasonic-assisted natural deep eutectic solvent

•A green and efficient method using NADES for the extraction of ergosterol was designed.•The ergosterol obtained with NADES as the extraction solvent was purer compared to traditional organic solvents.•The synergistic effect of ultrasound and NADES resulted in a more thorough rupture of LES cells.•NADES can be reused at least 7 times without a significant reduction in extraction efficiency.
