Functionalized metal-organic framework UIO-66 nanocomposites with ultra-high stability for efficient adsorption of heavy metals: Kinetics, thermodynamics, and isothermal adsorption

•Ultra-highly stable and functionalized UIO-66-EDTMP adsorbent was successfully prepared.•The maximum theoretical adsorption amount of Pb(II) was 381.195 mg/g.•Multiple isotherms and the PSO kinetic model agree with the adsorption process.•Adsorption is an irreversible and favorable chemisorption process.•The adsorption mechanism consists of chelation, ion exchange and electrostatic interactions.
