Quantifying and assessing the infiltration potential of green infrastructure in urban areas using a layered hydrological model

•The variations in maximum infiltration rate and cumulative infiltration for three green infrastructures with layer thickness and impervious barrier depth were analyzed.•Results support the importance of infiltration potential for improving the effectiveness of green infrastructures to reduce overland flow.•Urban hydrological simulations should incorporate the layered heterogeneity and infiltration potential assessment of green infrastructures.
