Artificial single skyrmion and biskyrmion states achieved in magnetic nanodot pairs by micromagnetic simulation

•We studied Co magnetic nanodot pairs combining vertical thin film CoPt, and successfully realized artificial skyrmion by adding in-plane magnetic fields at different angles.•We found single skyrmion state with topology number N = 1 and biskyrmion states for N = 2 could be achieved in different magnetic field intensity.•The stability of skyrmion was investigated by adding out-of-plane magnetic field, and its stability range is 0 T-0.6 T.
