Environment-friendly luminescent inks and films based on lanthanides toward advanced anti-counterfeiting

•“Green” luminescent materials based on lanthanides were facilely developed.•The luminescent inks have excellent luminescent performance and rich color.•The luminescent films with high strength are applied as anti-counterfeiting labels.•Multiple anti-counterfeiting strategies enhanced the level of anti-counterfeiting.
