An analytical framework for modeling ride pooling efficiency and minimum fleet size

•Model predicts ride pooling efficiency and required fleet size without simulations.•Efficiency grows with user demand, but increasingly slowly.•Scaling properties can be linked to underlying street network.•On Euclidean maps, the demand a given fleet can serve follows a power law.•Street networks with hierarchical structures show improved scaling.
