A Comprehensive Review of Sampling Techniques for Probabilistic Stability Analysis of Future Power Grids

Sampling techniques are essential for the probabilistic stability analysis of future power systems as the increased renewable energy penetration introduced more system and operation uncertainties along with the fluctuating system demands. However, these system uncertainties are ignored in the deterministic stability analysis. This paper provides a comprehensive review and classification of the available sampling techniques for different aspects of probabilistic power system analysis. The most commonly applied sampling techniques in the literature are collated according to their characteristics, advantages, disadvantages, and application areas. This review aims to highlight the accurate and appropriate sampling techniques which can be used in their current forms or with some improvement for various power system stability studies.
