Protein-Coding Transcriptome in Major Depressive Disorder and Suicidality: Distinct Pathways Regulating Myelination, Lipid Biogenesis, and Extracellular Matrix Pathways

Gene expression profiling studies in the brains of individuals who died by suicide and had depression-using oligonucleotide microarrays have often failed to distinguish MDD and suicide. However, the biological mechanisms underlying MDD and suicide remain elusive. To address these knowledge gaps, we applied next-generation sequencing technology to evaluate protein coding transcriptome changes in MDD and suicide and its effect in males vs females.
