Socially Responsible Investment is a long-term investment strategy that considers financial and social criteria for selecting investment projects and evaluating returns. Moreover, it is a moral obligation for legislators to establish an adequate framework to encourage and develop this type of investment. The EU is working to consolidate a more sustainable economy in the long term through policy recommendations for member states and targets to minimize negative impacts on the environment and personal well-being. Governments at the sub-national level should be proactive and implement policies to promote Corporate Social Responsibility to achieve these objectives and use their government structure to promote responsible public sector investment policy practices. This could be replicated at the national level through regulations for financial institutions and savings banks.
