The Family of Fan-Planar Graphs.

Beyond-planarity [ 24 , 28 ] has been developed in the areas of graph drawing and topological graph theory as a core topic. Planar graphs have been a key class here since several decades, although most of the graphs in practical applications are not planar at all. Nevertheless, most of the models and layout algorithms are based on the concept of planarity and aim for crossing-minimization, since too many edge crossings may lead to clutter and visual errors.
