•The conformational locking of ZIF-8 is a good method to improve the AIE fluorescence.•This method gives a good strategy to overcome limitations of FELISA in real samples.•The BPS exposure in beverages shows no considerable risk to human health at present.•This work provides available data support for occurrence and risk assessment of BPS.
