A visualization study of vacuum enhancement on vapor flow and yield in tubular solar still

•A visualization study was conducted to reveal vacuum enhancement in solar still.•Vapor flow and diffusion process were visualized through smoke tracer in 2D.•Flow velocity of vapor was increased by 153% under vacuum.•A novel model for predicting yield was developed with a deviation of 5.11%.•Three distinct flow regimes were classified with different Gr number.
