Heterogeneous photocatalysis: what is being overlooked?

Several important aspects of conventional catalysis have been constantly overlooked during research in the field of photocatalysis.The key aspects of catalysis, such as turnover frequency, reversible reactions, stability, poisoning, byproducts, and side products, should be considered during the study of photocatalysis.Conventional catalysis can provide enormous references for enhancing photocatalytic performance from the viewpoint of a surface reaction and for improving practicability toward reaching commercial applications.
