Time and economic cost of the routine use of marker sutures in surgical management of cutaneous skin malignancies.

Use of marker sutures in excision and direct closure of skin lesions is an unnecessary, potentially costly and time-consuming addition to a commonly performed procedure. We advocate reduction or avoidance of marker sutures in routine cases to decrease both economic cost and carbon footprint of this common surgical procedure.
