Surprising suspended sediment dynamics of an alpine basin affected by a large infrequent disturbance

•Windthrow-affected areas resulted a low source of suspended sediment.•Precipitation parameters are the best predictors of suspended sediment.•The suspended sediment yield (42 t km -2 yr−1) is comparable to the pre rate.•The Rio Cordon transport efficiency increased for low- and near-bankfull events.•The Rio Cordon features a new resilience state.
