Divergent hydrological responses to intensive production under different rainfall regimes: Evidence from long-term field observations

•High frequency of hydrological observations for up to 20 years.•The area of orchards increased from 4.4% to 37.4% due to intensive production.•Long-term intensive production had greatly reduced runoff and sediment load.•Intensive production increased the sources of sediment in the watershed.
