Country-Wide Evaluation of the South African Lightning Detection Network Location Accuracy

This paper evaluates the country-wide location accuracy of the South African lightning detection network (SALDN)between 2007 and 2019. The authors used the suggested method by Zhu et al to evaluate the South African Lightning Detection Network through a set of lightning events for a period of 12 years. For the towers used, the SALDN location accuracy median location error decreased from 304.14 m to 236.80 m after the 2010 upgrade and it decreased from 236.80 m to 158.11 m after the 2015 upgrade.
