Effect of electroacupuncture on discomfort during gastroscopy: A randomised controlled trial

•The trial aimed to compare the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) and sham EA on treating patients’ discomfort during gastroscopy.•EA was more effective than sham EA to relieve patients’ discomfortable feelings during gastroscopy.•Patients receiving EA suffered less gastrointestinal reactions, pain and anxiety, and had steady vital signs during gastroscopy.
