Technical Advantages Quantitative Evaluation of MVDC Applied in Flexible Interconnection of Distribution Network

Flexible interconnection of the distribution network is the primary path for the recent upgrading of power distribution systems based on medium voltage direct current (MVDC) technology. There is still a lack of quantitative evaluation of the technical advantages of flexible interconnection in distribution networks. In this paper, the application scenario of the flexible interconnection of the medium voltage distribution network is defined mathematically. On this basis, the technical performance improvement brought by the flexible interconnection is quantitatively analyzed. Case analysis results show that: compared with the original AC system and the AC interconnection scheme, the DC flexible interconnection scheme can significantly improve the overall power supply capacity, the distribution system utilization rate, the power supply reliability, and the distributed new energy acceptance capacity, meanwhile the energy efficiency of the whole distribution system is equivalent to the original AC system. So as a conclusion, this paper provides support that the flexible interconnection based on MVDC has good application value in urban distribution network with tight distribution channels, unbalanced load distribution, and high requirements for power supply reliability.
