Estimating the Potential Economic Impact of Tissue Valve Replacement for Heart Valve Disease in China: Patient-Level and Population-Level Cost-Benefit Simulation Analyses

•Patients with heart valve disease undergoing surgical aortic valve replacement with tissue valves generate greater lifetime societal economic gain than mechanical valves. Increasing the utilization of tissue valves among eligible patients with heart valve disease would provide aggregate long-term economic gains of US dollars 167 billion during their remaining lifetime.•Our study contributes to the literature by estimating this for postsurgical aortic valve replacement patients with both types of valve replacements by considering factors such as labor force participation (ie, percentage of working adults) and improved patient quality of life.•Policy makers should encourage physicians to adopt a more patient-centric decision-making approach by considering labor force participation and potential quality-of-life improvements in making their treatment recommendations.
