Novel Inorganic-Organic Hybrid Coordination Compound: Photochromic, Amine Vapor Detection, and Theoretical Calculation

A novel inorganic-organic hybrid monohydrate was prepared by solvothermal method using viologen ligand N -carboxymethyl-4,4'-bipyridinium chloride (CEbpy·Cl), 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid and Cd(NO 3 ) 2 ·4H 2 O. Dimensional chain coordination compound {Cd(MEbpy)·(hip)·Cl} n ( 1 ) (MEbpy + is N ‑methyl-4,4'-bipyridinium cation, hip 2– is 5-hydroxyisophthalate anion). Interestingly, the compound changed from light yellow to light turquoise under 300 W xenon lamp irradiation, showing good photochromic properties, and under ammonia vapor, the compound changed from light yellow to dark yellow, which was sensitive to ammonia vapor.
