Convalescent plasma therapy for coronavirus disease 2019 in ambulatory versus hospitalized patients: Efficacy and risk of thromboembolism

•Convalescent plasma therapy (CPT) in COVID-19 may have different effectiveness in COVID-19 management outside the hospital versus in hospital.•CPT significantly prevents disease progression in patients with COVID-19 who are yet to be hospitalized but not those who are already hospitalized.•Compared with usual care, CPT does not increase the risk of blood clot formation, unusually severe response to infection, and cardiovascular events.
