•The spectrum of SPE-DOM shows a Gaussian distribution.•Seawater DOM molecules are dominated by C, H, O, N, and S atoms.•Only 3.99%−11.22% of the IOS in the EIO, much smaller than the other seas.•RDOM components gradually accumulate and sink into the deep-sea.
