Are BPM Practitioners and Researchers Friends? Current Questions of Process Professionals and the Impact of Science.

The well-known discussion of what kind of research is relevant (brings value to the companies) and rigorous (brings value to the researchers) and thus should be conducted in the discipline of business informatics in general and in the field of business process management (BPM) in particular is ongoing. In this paper, the authors contrast current rigor BPM research trends with relevant practical trends. The practical trends a collected based on a survey of process practitioners. It turns out that many data-driven research topics have not (yet) a huge relevance in companies; rather, management topics play an important role. Questions concerning the modeling of processes are particularly frequent in science and practice.
