A spatio-temporal framework for modelling wastewater concentration during the COVID-19 pandemic

•During the pandemic wastewater-based epidemiology was recognized as an economically efficient approach for surveillance.•Scientific contributions focused on the viral level at the sewage treatment works where wastewater measurements are obtained.•We specify a spatio-temporal model to assess the relationship between wastewater viral concentration and a set of covariates.•This is the first study to provide estimates of SARS-CoV-2 viral concentrations in wastewater on a spatially resolved domain.
