摘要
Synthesis, design, and operation of nano-scale (1 to 100 nm) materials are attracting a great deal of attention from researchers worldwide, due to their novel properties as compared to their bulk counterpart. Emphasis is given to an eco-friendly approach for the fabrication of nanomaterials, biological systems in general and fungal system in particular. Due to their ability to fabricate nanomaterials at ambient temperature and pressure, they could provide a viable alternative. Synthesis of nanomaterials by fungal systems is advantageous as compared to other biological systems due to its ability to secrete large biomolecules, mainly nanomaterials are fabricated extracellularly, biocompatible, can be easily grown and the process could be easily scaled up for bulk production. The present chapter elaborates the nanomaterial fabrication using fungi, their advantages over other biological systems and role of various nanomaterials (Liposome, polymeric, quantum dots, core-shell, magnetic, dendrimer, etc.) in veterinary science. The applications of biogenic nanoparticles in veterinary medicine, drug delivery system, antimicrobials, medical diagnostics, biocides, nutraceuticals, and sperm nanopurification have been discussed.
