•The study extends the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM).•Second-order factors (Technology, Organization, Environment), had significant and positive effects on EPMS adoption.•First-order factors of were significant to EPMS adoption.•Behavioral intention towards EPMS adoption has positive relationship with individual performance.•TAM, De Lone and McLean and TOE were good choice for EPMS adoption.
