摘要
Development and Validation of a Questionnaire to Assess Self-Endangering Work BehaviorAbstract. Self-endangering work behavior comprises coping strategies in dealing with work-related stressors which negatively affect health. In three studies, we examined the factor structure of a questionnaire assessing self-endangering work behavior, the validity of the factorial structure, as well as further aspects of construct and criterion validity. We established 10 facets of self-endangering behavior, in addition to finding a second-order factor structure with two factors representing an extensifying and an avoiding behavior constellation. As expected, moderate and differential associations emerged between the extensifying and avoiding behavior constellation with work-relatedness and counterproductive work behavior. We further demonstrated the validity of the two constellations via differential associations with health-related variables (self-worth, psychosomatic symptoms, and emotional exhaustion) and work-related variables (overtime work, desired retirement age). Finally, we present and discuss the theoretical embedment of the construct and potential practical applications.
