Design of the removable shrouds for inertial-confinement-fusion cryotargets

•A set of novel removable thermal shrouds has been designed to prevent the residual gas from condensing on the laser-entrance hole (LEH) windows.•A special cooling methodology called as open pumping and directional condensation (OPDC) has been proposed to further reduce the condensation of the residual gas on the LEH windows.•These two strategies have effectively resolved the frosting problem around the cryotargets without storm windows for ICF experiments.
