•A novel direct air capture device using ceramic membrane contactor is established.•Robust structure of ceramic membrane offers a stable gas–liquid phase interface.•Hydrophilic membrane with NaOH as absorbent has an advantage on DAC.•A high mass transfer coefficient of 2.6 mm⋅s−1 is obtained for DAC.
