Environmentally friendly, antibacterial materials from recycled keratin incorporated electrospun PLA films with tunable properties

•Keratin electrospinning parameters optimized with carrier polymers/solvents.•Tunable nanofiber size creates tunable crystallinity in keratin/PLA.•Increase in keratin content in keratin/PLA system gives rise to improved and tunable thermal and thermomechanical traits.•Incorporation of keratin provides additional means of antibacterial activity for both against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
