Phytochemical analysis, antioxidant, and enzyme inhibition activity of five Salvia taxa from Turkey

•Salvia species have been used for treating various health issues and they contain various secondary metabolites.•The tested extract demonstrated strong anticholinesterase inhibitory activity nearly same with reference standard galanthamine at the higher concentrations.•There is a significant correlation between phenolic contents and free radical scavenging activity especially on the DPPH radical.•Salvia is potential AChE and BChE inhibitor and can be used as natural medicinal drugs.•Rosmarinic acid is the most abundant phenolic compound in all Salvia extracts by LC-MS/MS.
