Backbone model for reinforced concrete block shear wall components and systems using controlled multigene genetic programming

•Factors affecting RCBSWs response were identified using variables selection procedures.•A simplified backbone curve for fully grouted RCBSWs was developed using MGGP.•The developed model predictions were validated at the component- and system-level.•The accuracy of the MGGP model was compared to that of existing models.•Sensitivity analyses were conducted to study the model variables’ influences on predictions.
