Design and Fabrication of Low Cost Microfluidic Device for Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles

This paper presents the design and fabrication of a polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microfluidic device for the formation of silver nanoparticles. The nanoparticles were prepared by reducing silver nitrate solution with sodium borohydride. A T-junction micromixer was designed and fabricated on the PMMA chip for rapid mixing of silver nitrate and sodium borohydride solutions. The effects of different flow rates and molar concentrations of silver nitrate solution on the formation of silver nanoparticles were investigated. These nanoparticles were characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy.
