•A novel approach for OLTC voltage control operation using game theory is presented.•The proposed method is used to regulate voltage in an active distribution network (ADN) with higher solar PV energy generation.•The efficacy of the proposed method is tested during both the peak demand and peak sun hours.•Different power factors of the load and distributed generators (DGs) are considered.
