A comparison study between XR interfaces for driver assistance in take over request

•Examined the effects of using extended reality interface for assisting drivers in take over requests and in the first seconds of controlling the vehicle.•Focused on developing a lane detection algorithm to keep the vehicles follow the ego lanes.•Presented a prototype of an augmented reality and mixed reality assistance system realized on a simulated environment.•Compared user performance qualitatively and quantitatively within augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) interfaces using an ISO 9241 pointing task.
