Postpartum weight retention and its association with socio-demographic and obstetrics correlates: A cross-sectional hospital-based preliminary survey in India

•Postpartum weight retention and its associated factors are not well defined in the Indian population.•The mean postpartum weight retention was 5.29 ± 5.13 kg in this questionnaire-based study.•Socioeconomic status, education qualification, and type of family are associated with weight retention in this sample.•Among obstetrics variables, gestational weight gain was associated with weight retention in this sample.
