Superhydrophobic copper coating with ultrahigh corrosion resistance by electrodeposition process in a deep eutectic solvent

•A superhydrophobic coating was fabricated by electrodeposition copper from the deep eutectic solvent.•The coating exhibited a outstanding chemical stability.•The superhydrophobic surface exhibited a well self-cleaning capability.•The prepared superhydrophobic coating showed a superior anti-corrosion performance.
