Comparison of macro and micro-pollutants abatement from biotreated landfill leachate by single ozonation, O3/H2O2, and catalytic ozonation processes

•The valid stages in which two ozone-based AOPs play an enhancement role are different.•Catalytic ozonation enhances direct oxidation, while O3/H2O2 for indirect oxidation.•Surrogate predictive model for MPs removal can be expanded to high-strength leachate.•The MPs could achieve more than 90% elimination when the COD removal exceeds 30%.•The O3/H2O2 process consumes the least energy if desired COD removal is >35%
