•CO2 in air was found to impart light absorption peak at 482 nm of CaTiO3−δ.•Light adsorption at 482 nm enhances photocatalytic NO oxidation in air.•Transformation of adsorbed CO2 is important for the photochromism of CaTiO3−δ.•Heterojunction of CuO and CaTiO3−δ showed a Z-scheme charge carrier transport.
