Robust neural network-assisted conjugate orbital angular momentum mode demodulation for modulation communication

•A robust neural network approach is experimentally investigated for identification of conjugate orbital angular momentum modes.•The constructed model has higher robustness against turbulence and lower model computational complexity.•The proposed approach can effectively assist in demodulating conventional amplitude- and phase-modulation signals.
