5G and DetNet: Towards holistic determinism in industrial networks

In the previously strictly separated domains of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT), various communication technologies with diverse characteristics are used. On the way to Industry 4.0, many individual aspects of IT/OT convergence are being investigated, but a uniform overall picture is missing. Based on use case trends, we derive requirements for future converged production networks (CPN) and present a concept for a holistic deterministic network over DetNet and 5G. With that, we provide approaches for identified gaps in the standardization of both technologies in order to drive and achieve mutual integration.
