Epidemiology of tuberculosis and respiratory diseases in the elderly: A global view

•The age of tuberculosis patients in India is rising over time, a sign of both success and failure.•“Failure” because the elderly benefit epidemiologically least among all, “success” because it indicates reduced transmission and the pool of the infected is consequently moving towards older age groups.•Overall, it testifies to the achievement of the national program in successfully reducing the tuberculosis problem in the community.
