A new power flow model for combined heat and electricity analysis in an integrated energy system

•A new thermal–hydraulic model is proposed to analyze the district heating network.•A combined power flow model is derived for coupling calculation of heat and power.•The combined power flow model predictions agree well with the simulation results.•The model is used to optimize an IES considering wind power and heat storage.•Electric boiler and heat storage unit reduce wind curtailment and operating cost.
