Distribution System State Estimation with Losses in Radial MV and LV Networks.

As we transition to integrating more distributed energy resources (DERs) in the gird, distribution system state estimation (DSSE) plays an important role for modelling and operating the distribution grid. In this study, a new approach for solving the DSSE problem is proposed that includes the line losses in the system using the approximated Distflow model. The proposed approach is compared with existing models and tested on IEEE 37 and IEEE 906 node test feeders. The proposed method outperforms the DSSE approach without feedback on IEEE 37 node test feeder, particularly when transformer power flow measurements are available. It provides comparable results with feedback methods with computational benefits over them. The proposed approach provides some improvements over feedback methods in the IEEE 906 node test feeder, under higher loading conditions.
