The Monumental Heritage in Sardinia by Historical Eras: A Research to Evaluate the Place-Based Connections

The purpose of this paper is to investigate in a preliminary way the monumental heritage in Sardinia (Italy), formed in the different historical eras (the early-medieval, the medieval and the Catalan-Castilian periods), in order to understand how today the cultural landscape formed by these eras, is a potential attraction for residents and tourists. A model on cultural landscape applied to Sardinia Region is applied for obtaining this goal. This model is based on comparison between the integration indicator that analyses the accessibility, and the recreation index that interprets the use of the cultural good by users. The representation of the different historical periods sees the monuments as a place that history has strongly marked with traces and signs, sometimes disappeared and sometimes still clear and visible. The final goal of this paper will therefore be to propose a method of analysis of the cultural potential of locations across the Sardinian Region, through the accessibility and use analysis, which can be useful to the administration to create a representative network where the aggregated monumental realities can be part of different cultural paths also as tourism attractors. This paper shows an extension of a research on the paths of history for multicultural tourism started in 2019.
