Self-reported factors contributing to delay in ALS diagnosis among primary care providers in a large Ohio-based US healthcare network

•<1/5 of PCPs were confident with recognizing signs and symptoms of ALS.•PCPs report diagnostic uncertainty among top reasons for ALS diagnostic delay.•Educating PCPs and other non-neurologist “gatekeeper” providers is most desired.•Improving access to a neurologist is also highly desired to curb ALS diagnostic delay.
